Livestock is the backbone of Sudan’s rural economy, providing millions of people with food and nutrition security, income, and livelihoods. Healthy herds are also critical for maintaining the country’s position as one of the largest livestock-exporting countries in the region, generating valuable hard currency earnings.    FAO, in collaboration with the Government of Sudan, has launched the 2025 national livestock vaccination campaign to safeguard livelihoods of over 3 million pastoralists and agro-pastoralists across the country gripped by a major food crisis.   The initiative which will run from October 2025 through January 2026 aims to protect around 9.4 million animals from highly contagious and deadly transboundary and zoonotic animal diseases, with a particular focus on #PestedesPetitsRuminants, sheep and goat pox, contagious bovine pleuro-pneumonia, African horse sickness, as well as anthrax.   The vaccination campaign will generate indirect benefits for domestic and regional consumers of animal protein, as well as livestock service providers across Sudan and in neighbouring Arab and Gulf countries.   https://lnkd.in/dzVjvz9H

Climate Finance Week at FAO Headquarters in Rome highlighted how agrifood systems solutions are attainable through effective financing, programmes and partnerships.   The digital exhibition "Climate Finance – delivering climate solutions through agrifood systems” portrayed this and more with latest facts, figures and video footage demonstrating support to countries through climate action and building resilience.   During the week, FAO hosted the 2025 Standing Committee on Finance Forum of the UN Climate Change and officially opened the first Global Meeting of the Food Systems Integrated Programme (FSIP), a flagship initiative of the Global Environment Facility co-led by FAO and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).   The week also included gatherings of the Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation (FAST) Partnership, a COP-to-COP platform for dialogue on climate, agriculture and finance.
